BBC World Service Health Check – 9th June
I was guest on the BBC World Service Health Check radio program on the 9th June. The main guests talked about two very interesting topics: The treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and the menopause. I highly recommend that you listen to the whole program as it was illuminating in many ways Health Check – FDA approves new Alzheimer’s drug – BBC Sounds
I have attached here the bit where I spoke about a recent study published from research undertaken in long-term care facilities in the UK where people who were antibody positive due to infection in the first wave (March-May 2020) were found to be at reduced risk of re-infection in the second wave (Sept-Dec 2020). This was despite the fact these facilities housed vulnerable people, many over the age of 80years. Its is good news to know that having been infected once, gives you some protection. Worth noting though – that this is not 100% protection. About 2% of people still got re-infected, however the disease was mild.
