Hewa tele

Joy Wanja Muraya, science journalist from the Standard Newspapers published a piece today using the experience I had several years ago when my son Matt suffered a serious bout of pneumonia.

Joy raised the critical issue of availability of oxygen as a critical factor in the treatment of many childhood illnesses.
When Matt had pneumonia, he was admitted at a popular private hospital in Nairobi that rarely suffers shortages in basic equipment. Oxygen, a vital part of emergency care, was readily available – my son was lucky.
Most public hospitals have irregular access to oxygen. The ‘Hewa tele’ project that Joy wrote about will reduce deaths from pneumonia in Siaya hospital and hopefully will spread to more hospitals in the country.
